Step 1 ??What You Will Need
The first thing that you need is an account with blogger. Get one here:
The second thing that you need is an account with Google Adsense. Get one here:
The third thing that you should have are some social bookmarking accounts. Here is a list:
http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/social-bookmarking
You definitely don’t need to sign up for all of them, but get some of the top ones. I would definitely highly recommend Digg, for sure.
The last thing is optional. You can do everything yourself, but if you want to speed things up, you can outsource. I highly recommend Elance. Sign up here:
Step 2 ??Studying What is Hot
Head on over to Google Hot Trends:
http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends
You are looking for what is hot and what people are currently searching Google for. There is usually always sports somewhere in the top ten and maybe in the top fifty, several of times.
Sports are a good thing to target because they’re always in the news and people who follow sports, buy a lot of things. They buy tickets to sporting events, they buy clothing, memorabilia of all sorts etc.
I can see that Tony Gonzalez was traded today from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Atlanta Falcons. That is getting a lot of searches today. I happen to know a lot about American Football, I used to play it and I’ve followed it my whole life.
I know how every team did last year and I know the vast majority of the players. The good thing about American Football is that it is always in the news in The States. It is pretty slow for a couple of months a year, but that is about it.
You got the pre-season, the regular season, the post-season. Then you have the off-season. That is filled with the draft, free agency and trades. Lots of speculation and rumors goes on here.
You want to go over to blogger and set up your blog. Lets set up a blog about football. Don’t worry if you know nothing about the topic. It will take you five minutes of research to do enough research to write a couple hundred word blog post.
Once you have your blogger blog up. You want to give your post a title. Something simple:
??Tony Gonzalez Traded to The Falcons??
The title is simple and draws people in to read the blog post. You don’t tell them what he was traded for. Readers are going to be curious as to what the Chiefs got for him and what the Falcons gave up to get him.
You give them that information. Real basic stuff. Head over to www.espn.com or some other sports site and see an article and get your information from that.
There are two real keys here. You want to get in on this as soon as it breaks, that will be when it is at its hottest. You want the content up and monetized and getting traffic as quickly as possible to have the maximum effect.
You might say, well I live across the world and I’m sleeping when it is day time in The States. Well things happen on a broad scale. Some news breaks very early in the morning here or late at night. Granted you sleep seven to ten hours a night, you should be able to find some common time there.
This football example is just one. One of the great things about this strategy is the flexibility of it. You can target one area or many different areas or niches.
Entertainment is a very broad niche that can be broken down into smaller sub-niches. There is sports, music, movies, the celebrity niche etc.
You can target certain holidays. You can have your own Easter Blog, Fourth of July Blog, Halloween Blog, Christmas Blog etc. All of these holidays get highly searched during their holiday season and a lot of people are buying things in anticipation to these holidays. Take advantage of that.
The possibilities are really endless with this strategy…
Step 3 ??Writing The Blog Posts
This is not rocket science. You just want a few hundred words per blog post. Just read a similar news article and put it in your own words and there you go.
Once you start blogging on a regular basis, it will keep on getting easier and easier. You can outsource this, but I just don’t like doing that because I want to strike while the iron is hot and most of the time you have a turn around time on your projects.
Not unless you can find someone really dependable that has a really quick turn around time. Even if you hire someone for dirt cheap, it doesn’t take any great writing skill and the posts are really short.
Just provide good solid information to the reader and inform them and get them interested to take action. If they are interested to take action, they are much more likely to click on your Google Adsense.
Step 4 ??Monetizing The Blog Post
The main way to monetize this traffic is to use Google Adsense. I’m not going to spend a lot of time on this section.
Once you have your adsense account, place it on your blogger blog. Have it above your post and to the right of your posts.
You can always test for yourself, what ad placement works best for each of your blogs. That is the bottom line, best way to maximize your earnings.
Once you get your blogs set up for the long-term, you can do things like build a mailing list, be an affiliate and sell your own products.
Step 5 ??Getting The Traffic
This is where you can submit your blog posts to the social bookmarking sites that I mentioned earlier. Every time that you have a post, submit them to these sites.
You can also use a site called ping o matic. You can sign up here:
Every time that you make a blog post, you can use ping o matic to let the search engines know. It is a very nice site to use.
You can also outsource various traffic methods. You can outsource submitted posts to various social bookmarking sites. Again, I usually like to get my blog posts submitted as quickly as possible, to maximize the traffic.
Conclusion
This strategy is all about good research and identifying an opportunity. You want to jump on this opportunity and make the most of it.
Get on things early. You certainly don’t have to be perfect and I feel that the perfection module is a reason why marketers fail, they try to be too perfect. Get your stuff out there, no one is perfect.
Test out the strategy for yourself. I can’t be there to constantly monitor you and tell you what to do. You have to test for yourself, I’ve put out a road map, but sometimes you need to drive off course a little to find out what works best for you.
There are certainly other traffic strategies that you can use. You can also scale this operation up and have your own blogger blog empire.
